Good news! UTI is easily preventable
Good personal hygiene is the best way to prevent UTI, bladder and kidney infections. Along with following a healthy diet, regular exercise, choosing the right health supplements, and avoiding risky behaviour.
How to prevent UTI
Drink plenty of water (at least 2 to 3 litres) a day. Frequent urination will help to flush out the bacteria.
Include fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C in your diet such as red pepper, oranges, grapefruit and kiwifruit.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, carbonated drinks, chocolates, refined or processed foods and simple sugars.
Empty the bladder before and after exercise or sexual intercourse. Wash the genital area after sexual intercourse.
Stay away from irritating feminine products such as deodorant sprays, scented powder, and others with fragrance or chemicals.
Occasional consumption of a urinary alkalinizer may help maintain a healthy urinary system.
Keep the genital and anal areas clean. It is important to wipe from the front to the back as this helps to prevent spreading bacteria from the anal area to the vagina and urethra.
