Factors that can increase your risk for gout
The buildup of uric acid in your blood due to breakdown of purines leads to gout. There are several factors that can increase the risk of gout, including:

Middle-aged men or postmenopausal women

People with a family history of gout

People who drink alcoholic beverages

People with a catheter (tube) placed in their bladder for a long time

Taking medications, such as diuretics

People with hypertension, kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes or sleep apnoea

High consumption of purine-rich foods, such as organ meats and red meats
